The Flat Friends often hear about the tide, but it’s rare to see the change so clearly!
Top: At low tide, the water disappears and leaves ‘mud flats’ behind. Middle: As the water creeps back in, you can see two big rocks near the center. Bottom: At high tide, the rocks are completely covered by deep blue water!
Tip: Look for the star in each photo. That is the same green buoy every time! We moved around during the day, but the buoy stayed put.
As we sailed away from Bali we could only capture the largest birds with our 125x zoom. The Great Egret, Little Egret, Eastern Cattle Egret and Purple Heron searched the mud flats for food left behind by the retreating tide. We could almost make out Little Pied Cormorants, but our camera couldn’t focus on them.
