Flat Hal and Flat Halena ExperiencedSummer Snow Flurries In Antarctica!

Being told it is summer doesn’t make it feel like summer, no matter how many games we play.

No matter how many feet of snow and ice we see, stacked up across countless miles, it is still hard to believe the Flat Friends have come to Antarctica.

The Flat Friends are at the bottom of the world, by the blue dot!
Can you imagine what it would be like to visit Antarctica?

But somehow, it all began to feel real when the clouds rolled in, a drizzling rain started, and occasional snow flurries drifted down to the ship’s deck and almost immediately melted. Or maybe it just felt more like our friend Flat Stanley’s home in Canada.

The Flat Friends enjoyed the many moods of Antarctica.

11:30 AM, before the storm

Bright, vibrant and cheery. Dark, serious and stormy.

8:30 PM, after the storm

Perhaps most interesting of all were the times when the environment was shifting between one mood and another.

5:50 PM, Ice accumulated on the aft windows in the dining room during the short storm, then began melting when the sun reappeared.

We marveled as the sun came out, and blue sky peeked through the ice that had accumulated on the windows, distorting the view. Whales ventured near the ship again during dinner — do they have some way of avoiding storms? Or were they just staying out of sight while we weathered what the surface had to offer? It felt like they stayed out of sight during the rain.
