The world is an interesting place, whether you are looking up to see what birds are flying around, or looking down, to see what you are walking on. In Arrecife, Canary Islands we walked on a collection of black and red scoria fragments, locally known as picón. It comes from volcanoes!

Volcanic land, lava rock, meets sand at the edge of the lagoon the flat fellas walked around creating its own world.

Arrecife, Lanzarote,
Canary Islands

Flat Hal and Flat Stanley had never heard of a plant called the Canary Islands Spurge until they set out to discover what this interest flowering succulent they saw near Marina Lanzarote was called. They had walked just a block from where the shuttle dropped them off and already “discovered” an endemic plant! In many ways that sums up their entire time in Arrecife. Around each bend was an unexpected surprise. A fun view, an interesting statue… exercise equipment to play on along the side of the pathway!
