As we sailed in to Rio de Jainero, a beautiful, if somewhat subtle, sunrise welcomed us. The sunrise was “out to sea” compared to the city we were approaching, but the increasing light, and the changing angles of the sun almost made the skyline look like a present that was being unwrapped for the flat fellas.
The closer we got the harder we looked to spot the famous Christ the Redeemer statue up on the mountain above the city.
Christ the Redeemer
A statue high atop a mountain, where clouds can swirl around it, Christ the Redeemer has a reinforced concrete core with a soapstone overlay. The result is a statue with a striking white appearance, and the stability of a building helping hold it up.
