Flat Hal and Flat Stanley tried to make the most of a “late” in the day arrival in Ushaia for a “short” call in port. The morning was spent sailing Glacier Alley. At 2 pm the ship arrived in Ushaia, with all aboard at 7:30.

When sailing All Aboard is a very important time. The ship may be scheduled to sail at 8:00 pm, but All Aboard is when they pull in the gangway and start “slipping the lines” so they can pull away from the pier at 8.
When you get in a car, before it actually takes you somewhere, seatbelts are buckled, etc. Think of the time you get into the car as all aboard, and when the car finally gets moving as sailing time.

Fin Del Mundo!
A tour with a train ride.
Flat Hal and Flat Stanley already knew the words “fin” and “del” in Spanish when we arrived in Ushaia, Argentina. On occasions an old book, or a classic might end with either the word fin, or fini which simply means end, or the end.

Del is a combination of de and el, meaning of the. Near San Diego there is a road with a beautiful view, it is called the Del Dios Highway. Simply translated that means “of the gods” highway. Someone must have been impressed by the view when they first saw it.

Via Con Dios is a phrase you may have heard. It literally means travel with the gods, but is used as a way of wishing someone safe and good travels.

All this is to say, the Flat Fellas took a safe, peaceful train ride to the End of the World (or at least one of the furthest south cities in the world.)
