Puerto Chacabuco — a day of sightseeing

Flat Hal and Flat Stanley got a bit distracted at our first stop on the tour. The guide intended for us to look and see if we spotted an animal that was native to the region and frequented the area. However, the lake itself offered something different, and magical when we started taking pictures.

There is a cliche, “couldn’t see the forest for the trees.” Sometimes we get so focused on smaller pieces that we lose sight of the big picture— in this case the forest.

At this lake, the “magic” was that the forest was clearly that… until we looked at the reflection in the water, and suddenly individual trees stood out, clearly defined, independent, the forest fading away behind them.

Each of us is like one of those trees. We might think no one notices us, amid the forest that is our family, or class at school… but life is magical, and for others, people “pop out as individuals” just like these trees, simply by being themselves.

The Flat Fellas saw quite a few waterfalls on this tour, not too surprising when touring an area with an average annual rainfall of between 23 and 40 inches!

The countryside of Chile was full of color and life. Remember the sand of the desert not long ago?

Here we saw the Ibis (the black-faced Ibis?), the southern lapwing (which we get a much better picture of than last time we saw one), and the Chimango Caracara.
