San Antonio, the port city for Santiago, Chile

Flat Hal was amused when he discovered he and Flat Stanley were visiting San Antonio. That’s the name of a city “not far” from home in Texas. Have you ever looked up your city name to see if there are other towns with the same name in other states/provinces or countries?

According to one website there are over 300 towns named San Antonio, spread across more than 25 countries.

San Antonio is Spanish for Saint Anthony. Look up what he is the “patron saint of” and you might get some idea why a town would choose him for their name. (He’s the patron saint of lost items, sailors, travelers and the poor. Most people who establish a new town are, at the very least, travelers.)

If you could name a town what would it be? Why?
Do you know where your hometown’s name comes from?
Why it has that name?

San Antonio has been damaged by Earthquakes over the years, but has rebuilt and reopened, becoming a major cargo port.

San Antonio and Santiago Chile work together as a team

San Antonio is a large port city. A place where products come into and out of Chile. It is an important part of the country. Think of a port like a traffic intersection near home. You need to go through those to get from home to school, or sports, or your friends and relatives.

The things we buy need ports so they can get to our local store.

Santiago is the Capital of Chile. Like Ottawa, or Washington, D.C., it serves an equally important, but different purpose.

In Chile, these two cities work together to support the countries economy (businesses) and help people live their lives.
