Often, when you visit somewhere, a guide will take you from place to place, introducing you to the location and its highlights.

Flat Hal and Flat Stanley have enjoyed exploring on their own in a lot of ports, and Flat Jay got into the spirit as they walked around this community of less than 5,000 people, discovering what the sights revealed about the town and its people.

A statue in memory of those lost at sea stands not far from the lighthouse we walked to. À Nos Marins Disparus. Overlooking the pier where we docked, a shrine is mounted into the mountainside. Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto (Grotte Notre-Dame de Lourdes) is likely keeping watch over the sailors and fishermen as they come and go from the harbor.

A Walk To The Lighthouse

The flat fellas had fun planning where they would walk in Saint-Pierre. Flat Jay had never been to France, or a French Territory. Flat Hal and Flat Stanley, having visited French Polynesia less than a year ago, were somewhat familiar with the concept of a French territorial collectivity. That didn’t diminish how new and exciting this stop felt one bit!

A little bit of France off the coast of Canada, complete with Eurasian Starlings, House Sparrows, and Arctic Terns. We had great fun watching a sparrow treat someone’s rain gutter like it was a bird bath!
