Sailing Away From Dakar

Flat Stanley and Flat Hal noticed the Sahara Dust in the air when we were in Banjul, The Gambia. In Dakar the dust was still present in the air. The effect was more subtle in some respects, or perhaps we were in fewer situations where the light was catching on it, and our cameras and attempts to take photographs affected by it.

Then came sunset. Usually, at sunset, it is the clouds that catch the sun’s light and provide the most interest. Given the water content in clouds that makes a lot of sense. Here it was that haze of dust that seemed to try and catch the light and spread it like a blanket over the horizon, with a round glow radiating out from where the sun was.
