Pierside Fun in Dakar

Sometimes Flat Hal and Flat Stanley have walked four or five miles in port, or gone on an eight hour tour — in other ports it felt like an amazing amount of fun came right to the pier!

In Dakar lots of locals came and set up displays of local crafts and shirts they were selling. Those who didn’t feel like walking far, and crew members who didn’t have a lot of time between shifts felt they had almost as many shopping opportunities as those who went into town.

Great Egret

It wasn’t just the local people who came out to see our ship, it was the birds too! A Great Egret spent a while on our mooring lines, some Black Kites and Pied Crows flew around overhead, and as we sailed out of the harbor it looked like an entire flock of Great Cormorants was on guard duty! Dozens of them were spaced out along fences and buoys monitoring the comings and goings into their harbor.
