Periodically, the Flat Friends try to visualize where we have been so far. This time, as we looked at the map we found ourselves wondering how many oceans and seas we have sailed. How many rivers? We are trying to compile a list of the waterways we have traveled so far… can you help?

Major Oceans and Seas
North Atlantic Ocean: Traversed during the initial leg from the Caribbean toward the equator.
South Atlantic Ocean: Primary body of water along the coast of Brazil, Uruguay, & Argentina.
South Pacific Ocean: The dominant body of water for the journey from the Chilean coast across to French Polynesia, New Zealand, and Australia.
Bellingshausen Sea: Located to the west of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Tasman Sea: The final stretch of water crossed between New Zealand and arrival in Sydney.
Scotia Sea: The sub-Antarctic waters surrounding the Falkland Islands and the approach to the Antarctic Peninsula.

Straits, Passages, and Channels
Drake Passage: Famous and often turbulent stretch of water between Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands.
Strait of Magellan: Historic navigable sea route separating mainland South America from Tierra del Fuego.
Beagle Channel: The scenic passage leading into and out of Ushuaia, Argentina.
Bransfield Strait: Body of water separating the South Shetland Islands from the Antarctic Peninsula.
Gerlache Strait: A scenic strait between the Palmer Archipelago and the Antarctic Peninsula.
Lemaire Channel: A famous, narrow scenic passage located between Kyiv Island and the Antarctic Peninsula.
Neumayer Channel: An S-shaped channel separating Anvers Island from Wiencke Island.
McFarlane Strait: Located within the South Shetland Islands between Livingston and Greenwich Islands.

Bays, Estuaries, and Deltas
Guanabara Bay: The spectacular harbor where Rio de Janeiro is situated.
Río de la Plata: The widest river/estuary in the world! Shared by Punta del Este, Montevideo, and Buenos Aires.
Amazon River Delta: Navigated during the approach and departure from Belém, Brazil.
Hauraki Gulf: The body of water surrounding the approach to Auckland, New Zealand.
Bay of Islands: The specific coastal area where Waitangi is located.
Paradise Bay: A key Antarctic location where the ship explored the “White Continent”.
Wilhelmina Bay: Large bay on the Antarctic Peninsula known for its stunning ice and wildlife.
Dallman Bay: Situated between Brabant and Anvers Islands.
Hope Bay: Located at the northern tip of the Trinity Peninsula.
Admiralty Bay, Maxwell Bay, & King George Bay: Significant bays located within the South Shetland Islands.
