The Sun Set And The Snow Moon Appeared!

Flat Hal and Flat Halena were really confused as they were taking pictures. Sunset was easy enough to recognize, and it was fun trying to capture the golden hues of the setting sun around the stark, frozen landscape of Antarctica.

But less than an hour after the put away their cameras it looked the sun itself was dipping below the horizon, like maybe they had missed part of the sunset somehow. Even more confusing was when it suddenly looked like the sun was rising again!

The moon looks bigger when it is down by the horizon

They wanted to believe they were photographing the moon reflecting the last bits of a sunset… but were they?

When the moon is low on the horizon, its light has to travel through more of Earth’s atmosphere. This filters out the blue light and leaves only the beautiful oranges and reds we see here!

The Flat Friends photographed a Snow Moon! Neither one had ever heard of a snow moon before, but after this experience they may never forget!
