Amazing Birds at Every Turn On Vigur

#flatstanley #flathal

Here the Flat Fellas saw Arctic Terns. It brought to mind seeing the Cayenne Tern on Devil’s Island… different parts of the world have similar birds!

They also saw a lot of Eiders (male and female), as well as Guillemots. Typically the Guillemot is mostly black, with white on their wings.

An unexpected treat was seeing a Eurasian Oystercatcher… with three of their eggs resting in a nest a few feet in front of them.

Oystercatcher…
Eurasian and American

On Vigur the flat fellas saw a Eurasian Oystercatcher out on a rocky beach, not far from its nest which held three eggs.

Another Eurasian Oystercatcher posed for a photo in Djúpivogur, during their walk to the black sand beach.

Seeing these Oystercatchers in Iceland was twice as fun because they had seen an American Oystercatcher in Peru during their visit to the Paracas National Reserve.

The oystercatchers use their long beak to get food out of the sandy beaches. The flat fellas were impressed by their colorful beaks.
