Peru is Flat Hal and Flat Stanley’s second country in the Southern Hemisphere this trip!

Our last sunset in the Northern Hemisphere

We were so excited about the Panama Canal that Flat Hal and Flat Stanley didn’t journal about crossing the equator a few hours before we arrived in Manta, Ecuador. (The Captain predicted we would cross the equator around midnight, but none of us stayed up to watch the map and see exactly when it happened.)

Crossing the equator meant we sailed into the South Pacific Ocean, and made our second trip as a group to the Southern Hemisphere but our first trip to South America.

What do you know about the Southern Hemisphere? It is February as I type this entry, it is cold back home, but it has been in the 80s in Ecuador and northern Peru. The further South we go the colder it will get.

Interestingly, when we looked up what season it would be when we were in Ecuador and Peru we found references to Wet Season and Dry Season as opposed to Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall.

Our first great sunset in the Southern Hemisphere
