Tour Tanguy —A Medieval Tower

The Tour Tanguy, Bastille de Quilbignon or Tour de la Motte Tanguy is a medieval tower across the Penfeld river from the château de Brest, in Brest, France.

Probably built during the Breton War of Succession, the flat fellas were able to go inside and climb to the top for a view over the river.

Hundreds of years ago this tower probably offered a great lookout point. It is easy to imagine watching for ships heading towards Brest… or men charging towards a much smaller/older town on horseback. Now, however, taller buildings surround this piece of history, which has managed to stand for … seven centuries?
