The Flat Fellas have traveled the world… but you don’t have to go thousands of miles to see interesting places.

Cameron Park Zoo

Going on a 133 day cruise taught the flat fellas a lot about the world. One of their simplest lessons was that every place they visited had something to offer.

Whether it was waterfalls, botanical gardens, a chance to learn about foods they eat often (how they are grown and where they come from) or to see wildlife that doesn’t live in their part of the world, every port offered something.

Upon their return to Texas, Flat Hal and Flat Stanley thought it would be fun to act like tourists “at home” in Flat Hal’s home state.

A quick road trip to North Texas was their plan… first stop, just an hour and a half north of Austin, Cameron Park Zoo. A great place to stretch their legs after some time in the car!

An African Sacred Ibis hanging out with some Flamingos is a great example of the roommates situation in the aviary and many of the bird enclosures we stopped by.

As the flat fellas saw almost as soon as they entered the zoo and noticed the gibbon (small ape), any animals at risk of wandering or flying away had cages to provide boundaries. It also keeps them safe from humans who may forget to respect their personal space.
