The Flat Fellas Spent A Few Hours ImaginingWhat Explorers Would Have First Discovered In Eidfjord Norway

#flathal #flatstanley

Often when we are walking around one of these villages, towns, or cities so far from home the conversation turns to the amazing things that have been built. Ways in which life here is similar or different from our hometowns. In Eidfjord our gazes were drawn to the mountains around town — the snow, the fantastic waterfalls, it was so easy to imagine what the first ships would have seen as they sailed this fjord. As we stood on deck eight of our cruise ship we realized those wooden ships, centuries ago would have been so much closer to the water, the fjords looking even grander, the waterfalls all the more impressive.

The Flat Fellas Relaxed In A Village Of 900 People

Our cruise ship has over 1,000 passengers on board. Visiting a village with a population of just 900 means, as passengers, we feel a little responsibility not to act like, or come across as an invasion force.

The residents of these small communities welcome us. Share with us the amazing waterfalls, their normally tranquil streets, and our hope is to behave in a way that encourages them to continue sharing their corner of the world with others.

While we enjoyed taking photographs of the natural wonders , others went out in kayaks for an up close view out on the water, with locals guiding them to favorite places.
