Tetrapods! A New Word For The Flat Fellas
In addition to using local stone at the pier, Tetrapods were used to construct the breakwater. These concrete pieces look like a toy called “jacks”. They interlock, allow the water to flow around them in a way that prevents pressure build up, and overall offer an affordable way for ports without a nearby source of abundant large rocks to build a breakwater.
