Both Panama and the United States are presidential representative democratic republics. That doesn’t mean they have the exact same types of governments, but we can take our knowledge of the United States government to help us understand the government of Panama.

Both have a President. Both have a legislative branch elected by the government. Where the United States has two chambers, Panama only has the National Assembly.
Flat Stanley tried comparing it to Canada this way. The President is like a Prime Minister, and the National Assembly is like the two houses of Parliament combined into one.
